BIO: Lazer 77 was a short-lived three-piece space-rock band that spent as much time playing Twisted Metal on the Playstation and drinking tall boys of Bud as recording songs on a boom box. I regret the unrealized sound that this band had potential for, and I really don’t recall how it all ended finally. I do remember that Chris and I wanted to play with Matt to have some other outlet to music other than Mulligan Stump II, which was plodding along at this same time. If we had spent as much time refining our MBV and Spiritualized influenced sound as we did bashing each other’s digital cars into smithereens, these recordings might have sounded better. Matt and I also did a few recordings as a duo during this time. We briefly had a vocalist, Gloria Pittel, but we never recorded with her. I don’t know how she could have sang over the sheer volume of these songs.
Band Members: Sergio Chavez (bass, drum programming), Matt Garcia (guitar, drum programming), Chris Chavez (drums)
Years of Operation:1996
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Song List:
The following songs were recorded in Matt Garcia’s basement in his house near UNM (all are instrumental):
Spy Hard (version 1 – very short)
Spy Hard (version 2)
Sitting Down Song (I think we called it this because I had to sit down while playing it for some reason)
These songs were recorded by Matt and I on his 4-track:
Extra info: I don’t think I have any photos of this band and I doubt that additional recordings exist, but I’ll see what I can find.
