Saturday Banned
November 12th, 2008 by lo-budge

BIO: Saturday Banned (a pun for “Saturday Band” due to us only practicing on Saturday afternoons and having such a punk-rock sound that we must certainly be “Banned”) was probably the weirdest band I have ever played in. Marty Crandall moved to Las Vegas, leaving the other three members of The Out wondering what to do next. With Ed Stuart having recently moved into my neighborhood, we became better friends and the remaining members of The Out decided to form a band with him (Chris and Ed knew each other pretty well by this time). Mark Sigler (who was the first guitarist I ever “jammed” with after buying my first bass, and was a neighbor of Chris Chavez), who at the time was living with his grandma in a depressing house with a year-round Christmas tree in the living room, and has about a million stories I don’t have time to expand upon here (but most likely will in my blog on the home page), rounded out the line-up. We had a few rehearsals in Ed’s house and luckily a couple of those songs were committed to tape.
This band quickly and amicably ended upon news of Marty returning to Albuquerque.

Band Members: Sergio Chavez (bass), Chris Chavez (drums), Greg Golden (keyboards), Ed Stuart (guitar, vocals), Mark Sigler (guitar)

Years of Operation:1992

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Song List:

The following songs were recorded while Chris and I were in The Out in my parent’s garage in Albuquerque (and consist of Ed, Chris, and Sergio):

Instrumental Untitled Song (This song is currently only on the left speaker – I’ll convert it to binaural soon).

SK8 Tuff (I distinctly remember heading out skateboarding with Ed and Chris after this recording session and being so pumped up).

This song was recorded in Ed’s parent’s living room with the full band:

Because of You (nice guitar solo and feedback by Sigler, and featuring “Rocky” at the end of the song)

Extra info: How I wish a photo existed of this band, but I don’t think there is one.  If there was one, it would look something like this:  Imagine a nerdy skinny kid on bass, a curly haired drummer, a sort of sporty keyboard player, a serious hesher with long black hair dyed with blonde streaks, and a straight-edge-looking punk rock high-school guitarist/singer with a moustache.  Awesome!!!

Update 9/2/09:  Photos of this band do exist after all!  And here they are:
