Fever and the Fallin’ Rain
May 1st, 2009 by lo-budge

BIO: In the words of the MySpace Page:  “Though based in Durham, NC, Fever and the Fallin’ Rain consists of members from across the country with equally diverse backgrounds. The 4-piece formed in early 2009, but the core members have been writing together since the summer of 2007. Seattle-born singer Steve Styles and pianist Helene Fever from North Carolina started the band with alt-country aspirations, soon transforming into experimental rock and finally finding a niche with Fever’s pop-inspired sounds. Bassist Sergio Chavez hails from all over the Pacific Northwest, and he joined Fever after searching for a piano-driven style of music. Guitarist Todd Bryan spent years in California before returning to the Triangle, and he entered Fever’s music at the start of their concept album, ‘KCrossroads’.”

I was playing live in this band for about three intense months, and they are still playing currently as a duo (consisting of Steve and Jessica).  I briefly played with Rocco after Michel left the band, but he is not on any of the recordings below.  I left the band due to not being able to commit to the number of shows that were being booked, but it coincided with a move to Wilmington from Durham for Jessica and Steve.

I plan to still record bass tracks and help mix future songs for Steve and Jessica, but I won’t appear live with them for future shows, of which they have many booked already.

Band Members: Sergio Chavez (bass),  Jessica Smith (organ, vocals) , Steve Case (vocals, keyboards), Todd Bryan (guitar), Michel Inserny (drums), Rocco Hoodiman (drums)

Years of Operation: 2009

Location: Durham, NC

Song List:

The following songs were recorded at Gismo Recording Studio in Chapel Hill, NC:

You Came, Now Go!

Malts and Walts

The Rails Decline

These songs were recorded by Michel, Jessica, and I at Steve and Jessica’s home in Durham using a minidisc recorder and one mic:

Bleeding Borders

Father McCoy

Wide Open Days (The 3-note keyboard part at the beginning that Jessica does was actually Todd’s guitar part when he played with us)

You Came, Now Go!

Malts and Walts (We practice the ending twice on this one)

Questions For Quay (Version 1 – We never quite got around to playing this one live)

Questions For Quay (Version 2)

Way To Go, Waldo! (Another song that was new for me before we quit playing together, so I never played this one live)

Extra info: Here are several photos of us:
