It’s skeletons in the closet week! Which means I’ll post some guilty pleasures for the next few days.
Slightly Stoopid is a band I had always heard of but never listened to at all – I was put off by their name. But Chris sent me a few links after listening to this album at a record store recently and being pleasantly surprised at their sound. I think it’s safe to say I’ll never be a “StoopidHead”, but I did like most of these songs and the blown-out bass on this recording is sort of refreshing as it’s not some over-produced sound. It is very authentic, and the organ solo around the 4:00 minute mark reminds me of old Jamaican Studio One stuff. In fact, if I heard the last 2 minutes of this song on the radio and didn’t know who the band was, I would think it was a 60′s recording of some old Jamaican reggae band. I definitely was not expecting that. And touring with Sly and Robbie last year gives them a lot of cred in my book.
