Curtis Mayfield – Move On Up
Dec 30th, 2009 by lo-budge

Dailymotion – Curtis Mayfield – Move On Up (1970) – une vidéo Musique.

I can’t think of a better way to end 2009 than with this song.  Happy New Decade!
New Order – Age Of Consent

YouTube – New Order – Age Of Consent.

I always pull this album out around January … this is a good New (Order) Year starter.

The Decemberists – Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
Dec 23rd, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Decemberists “Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect” Video.

This isn’t a Christmas song, but it’s a good winter song and some of the imagery in this video goes well with the season.

I may not do any updates for the next several days, so have a happy holiday season!

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – I Can Tell When Christmas Is Near
Dec 22nd, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Smokey Robinson & The Miracles ~ I Can Tell When Christmas Is Near.

I suppose one “heavy metal” Christmas song is enough.  Here’s a song we play every year around my house.  The bass guitar sounds amazing, and the line it’s playing is beyond bouncy – I wish I could get that tone and play like that.

Twisted Sister – Heavy Metal Christmas
Dec 21st, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Twisted Sister – Heavy Metal Christmas.

I’ve decided to switch up genres this week for Christmas songs.  I give you … Twisted Sister’s “Heavy Metal Christmas”.  I would never consider Twisted Sister as real heavy metal, but there is something entertaining about this video.

Kool & The Gang – Summer Madness
Dec 18th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Kool & The Gang – Summer Madness.

From Chris:

Summer Madness, to warm up your winter! I love the Rhodes piano in this song. Its warm. This track has been sampled a few times for hip hop tracks, and why not? Its so open, its ripe for sampling. The song deserves to be enjoyed by new generations. Thank god for YouTube so we can all enjoy the tracks we missed out on from the 70’s because our parents were listening to Barry Manilow (at least mine were).

Eek A Mouse – Christmas A Come
Dec 17th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Eek A Mouse – Christmas A Come 12″ 1981.

It may lack the pizazz of yesterday’s video, but this song is actually good.

I added a bunch of Tiger 2 images last night, as well as a few of Halo, but I still have a few Halo ones to clean up and add over the weekend.

Bryan Adams – Reggae Christmas
Dec 16th, 2009 by lo-budge

JogyJogy – Видео клип Bryan Adams – Reggae Christmas – HD видео клипове.

This was an incredible find. This has it all: Pee-Wee Herman (wearing a dreadlocks wig!), Bryan Adams doing a reggae song, some guy with a mullet, and conga-line dancing by a primarily white audience. This is the definition of watered-down reggae that gives it a bad name. This also reminds me of almost every office party I have had to attend over the years. This was perfect, and I thank my lucky stars that some weird Russian website called JogyJogy had an embeddable version of this moment in history at a better video and audio quality than what I could find on Youtube.  I’ll post something more authentically reggae tomorrow.

Gavin Rhodes found a bunch of Halo and Tiger Two pictures yesterday that will I will add to this site as soon as I have some time.

Yellowman – Santa Claus Never Comes To The Ghetto
Dec 15th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Santa Claus Never Comes To The Ghetto – Yelloman (Reggae Christmas).

In this week (and probably next week’s) series of reggae Christmas songs, here is Yellowman with an important message and a weird guitar solo.

Will Eskridge has a short film about Halo that I had forgotten all about.  I know I have it on VHS somewhere but I haven’t seen it in years.  He originally did it on Super 8 with a cassette tape sound track but has digitized it and hopefully I will be able to host it on this site soon.  I can’t wait to see it again …

Jacob Miller – Deck the Halls
Dec 14th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Natty Christmas – Deck the Halls & Untitled.

I’ve been looking forward to this for a few months.  Not Christmas, exactly, although that’s fine, too.  No, I’ve been looking forward to several days of Christmas-themed reggae songs ever since Chris turned me on to some of them.  I didn’t think they even existed, but there are many, many of these bizarre songs available for enjoying if you like to roast your chestnuts with a little sinsemilla.  The lyrics (which I can’t find online yet) and album cover for this one alone are more than I can handle.  I may just post songs from this one album all week long.  It’s that good.  Yellowman is bound to make some appearances in the next few days as well.

Nick Campbell found an old Halo photo that he posted on Facebook from our days in San Francisco (this one was taken at the Tip Top Inn on Mission Street).  I’m going to clean it up in Photoshop and then put it on the Halo page:
