Scientist – Blood On His Lips
Oct 30th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Scientist – Blood On His Lips.

From Chris:

Keeping with Serg’s Halloween theme this week, I offer the dub track “Blood On His Lips” by Scientist from the album “Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires”. Scary song name, scary album title, very scary album cover! Some may recognize that the Orb uses a sample from this song, but I can’t remember which Orb song it is!

From Sergio:

Mooo-ha-ha-ha-ha!

The Specials – Ghost Town
Oct 29th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – The Specials Ghost Town.

I watched Poltergeist last week (it had been many years since I had seen it) and found it to be a pretty funny movie that was different to watch as an adult.   I also saw Ringu for the first time (I think it would actually be scarier the second time around).   The Mist is next on the scary movie list to watch this weekend.  I would get Texas Chainsaw Massacre again but honestly I don’t think I can handle that movie again.  It freaked me out when I watched it six years ago.

In case I don’t post anything this weekend, have a Happy Halloween!

Gorillaz – Last Living Souls

It’s almost Halloween – time for some creepy songs this week!  Or at least ones that I think are a bit creepy.

And here’s a group in Facebook I got invited to join.  I didn’t join, and you’ll see why when you look at the topic/comments.  This is the “scariest” thing I’ve seen all year:

Fela Kuti Documentary
Oct 23rd, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Fela Kuti Documentary PART 2.

From Chris:

Fela Kuti documentary with awesome footage of 70’s era Nigeria. Fela pioneered afrobeat music and was greatly inspired by James Brown. Man, Fela wears tiny shorts during his performance! I saw his son Femi play at the Hollywood Bowl, which was a great show.

One Year Anniversary
Oct 22nd, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Queen – ‘Another One Bites the Dust’.

I was thinking of calling this post “one year old today”, but I decided that lo-budge.com and I have a relationship and the word “anniversary” is more fitting.

Although I started uploading songs to this site more than one year ago, I did my first blog posting a year ago tomorrow, 10/23/08.  This site has changed quite a bit from that first posting, when I didn’t have any images up yet, my WordPress theme was very basic, and there weren’t even any band pages yet.  George W. Bush was still our president and my daughter couldn’t even walk yet.

At this point, every band page is done and I have uploaded one video and over 100 images.  Many more images, videos, and even a few more mp3’s are expected to be uploaded in the next calendar year.  And if things go well, another band page will be added, too.

I’m not sure how many people visit this site, and I’m not looking to promote it or drive a lot of traffic to the site.  The next year will just be more of the same updating and uploading.  This has been a labor of love and I aim to grow the site over the years and mostly just keep it available.  I may not blog every day once I feel like posting a daily YouTube video is not fun to do anymore, but it is always fun for me to dig up more stuff to throw on the site.  I’m sure there will be site re-designs in the future, but probably not in this next year.

Anyway, thanks for visiting this site and send me any stuff I may not have if you’re involved in any of the projects hosted here!

Pinback – Prog
Oct 21st, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Pinback – Prog.

Andrew Squire is going to see Pinback tonight in Nashville, according to his recent Facebook status, and it reminded me of the time he and I went to see them in Seattle several years ago.  After their afternoon show at the Crocodile we saw them at Shorty’s (a great arcade/bar) next door and asked them why they didn’t play this song.  They didn’t really give us an answer.

Kraftwerk – The Model
Oct 19th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – KRAFTWERK – THE MODEL.

This song came on the local Raleigh college station over the weekend.  I love the simplicity and repetitiveness.    I had never seen the video until now, though.  I love the line “She’s posing for consumer products now and then”.

In a weird way, the beginning and ending keyboards sound like the synth bass on 808 State Vs. UB40’s “One In Ten”.
