Ode to “Scanner”
Aug 31st, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Ode to “Scanner”.

I got my scanner today!  I’m not sure if it works yet, but I really doubt it can do what this one in the video does.

If it does work, I should have some interesting findings scanned into various pages on this site fairly shortly.

Bernard “Pretty” Purdie: 16th Note Shuffle

YouTube – Bernard “Pretty” Purdie: 16th Note Shuffle.

From Chris:

Sergio and I posted Bernard Purdie’s Samba lesson on the drums. This video is of Purdie teaching us his 16th note shuffle. He is so good, his shoulders hardly move! I could listen to him play drums all day.

Sparklehorse – Hundreds of Sparrows
Aug 27th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Sparklehorse – Hundreds of Sparrows.

I’m going to update some of the links on this page today.  I definitely want to keep the links to other web sites from people I have played with on the left side of the page, but I’m not sure I want to keep the ones on the right side – I may use that space for something else.

I also have a scanner showing up (finally!) sometime in the next couple of weeks.  I have been relying on others to send me photos, but I have a stack of things to scan and put up on the band pages once I get the scanner working.

There should be some good new photos coming up later next month also …

** Update:  I have decided to experiment with RSS feeds on the right side of the screen.  For now, I have the Rhapsody New Music feed which displays new albums uploaded to Rhapsody that allow for streaming or buying the music.  I’ll probably change the RSS feeds, but for now I can hopefully display new music to listen to this way.  If anybody has any RSS music feeds they enjoy, please let me know about them – I don’t use RSS much.

*** Second Update:  I removed the Rhapsody feed because it only allows 25 plays per month, and it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.  I have a new feed from Feedzilla up right now, and I may see how it goes and add a few more beneath it.

Lily Allen – Nan You’re A Window Shopper

YouTube – Lily Allen – Nan You’re A Window Shopper + Lyrics.

This spoof of 50 Cent’s Window Shopper is so much better musically and lyrically.

It’s no “No mo’ breakfast”, but it’s a pretty good song.

No mo’ breakfast song
Aug 24th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – breakfast song.

I can’t remember where I first found a link to this video, but it’s a pretty catchy little number about no mo’ Captain Crunch  or Lucky Charms when death comes for you.  Well, it’s also about going home to god, if you believe that sort of fairy tale.  Doesn’t heaven have light bread and beef stew for breakfast?  What use is it if it doesn’t?

Vybz Kartel – “Yuh Love”
Aug 21st, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – OFFICIAL VERSION New Vybz Kartel Single “Yuh Love”.

From Chris:

The normally hard-edged Vybz Kartel expresses his softer side with this killer dancehall tune which was released early this month. I haven’t been keeping up with the current crop of dancehall artists, but I like Kartel’s stuff!

Nashville Teens -Tobacco Road
Aug 19th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Nashville Teens -Tobacco Road.

While the Nashville Teens were not a local band (nor were they even from Tennessee, or the USA for that matter), this cover of the song originally written by Durham native John D. Loudermilk captures the dusty and somewhat desperate nature of this town.

The Rosebuds – Get Up Get Out
Aug 19th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – The Rosebuds – Get Up Get Out.

I had not time to post yesterday due to a daughter with a fever and working from home on a very slow internet connection.  So I’ll post two videos today.

This one is from The Rosebuds, who I have not seen live but are from Raleigh and on Merge Records.  I thought I would look up some local bands today.
