In Da Club with Rogers
Jul 31st, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – In Da Club with Rogers.

From Chris:

“I found this remix clip of a kid breakdancing with Fred Rogerz. Although the original clip is awesome, this remixed clip featuring a euro dance club remix of In Da Club is twice as fun to watch as the original clip. The original clip seems to drag a little bit because they used a really low budge hip hop track. I tried to breakdance when I was around 8 or 9. I sucked at it. I took a breakdancing class and we all had to stand in a circle holding hands and we did the wave through the whole circle. When we were taught floor moves I couldnt grasp any of the physics required to make my body actually rotate, twist or move at all. Thank you Jermain Vaughn, for showing me how it was supposed to be done.”

This is a cover of an Architecture in Helsinki song.  Dr. Dog is playing this year at Portland’s Pickathon and I wish I could attend.  Maybe next year …

Tom And Jerry Kids Intro
Jul 29th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Tom And Jerry Kids Intro.

The Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and John Mellencamp show last night was a lot of fun, and I agree with most of the review of it here.  Simone had a great time playing with other kids in the baseball field where we watched the show from, but by 10:00 she was tired and we didn’t mind leaving during Bob Dylan’s sub-par performance.  I saw him about 10 years ago in Concord, CA, and it was a similarly uneven performance.  I had a lot of fun watching Willie Nelson, though, who opened up the show.  John Mellencamp was very energetic and played the hits and was regarded as the best performer of the evening, although I wasn’t as excited to see him as the other two.

I’m posting this video because this stupid song for this even stupider cartoon gets stuck in my head all the time.  And I haven’t seen it in years and years.

Bob Dylan – As I Went Out One Morning
Jul 27th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – John Wesley Harding – 02 As I Went Out One Morning.

Yesterday and today’s oldey-timey songs being posted are due to the fact that I will be seeing Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and John Mellencamp tomorrow night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.  It will be my daughter’s first official concert, which she is getting to attend about 14 and a half years earlier than I attended my first real concert (the Pixies, when I was 15 or 16).  I don’t anticipate Dylan and Willie being alive for many more years, so I’m glad she’ll get to see these icons and boast about it later, even though she won’t remember a lick of it.  I’ll try to get some pictures.

James Brown gives you dancing lessons
Jul 24th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – James Brown gives you dancing lessons.

From Chris:

“This video proves to me that some individuals on this earth have god-given talent. I know James Brown started dancing when he was a little kid, but he is so good at dancing, its just unfathomable to me. My image of James Brown is of an older man with a creased face and out-of-date conked hair, but in this video he is young, healthy and fit. His dances are just hypnotic. When he does the robot, it is so crisp it looked to me like stop-motion animation. Too bad this clip is so short, I’d love to see it in its entirety.”

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1

YouTube – Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 – (Tunnels ).

I know I mentioned I have some spam comments that crack me up, but I don’t have time to go through them yet, so I’ll do that at some point in the future.

One of the things I like about living in Durham is that Merge Records is right downtown, and some of the employees are on my bowling league and are very friendly people.  It’s nice to have a big indie label in the midst of all this Southern weirdness.  They are turning 20 years old now and are having multiple concerts for many of their artists in Chapel Hill (tickets sold out way too fast for me to attend any, however).  This is probably their largest band by far.

Orbital – Halcyon & on & on.
Jul 21st, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Orbital – Halcyon & on & on..

I promise to stop posting songs related to “It’s Going To Be A Fine Day” after this one.  This song by Orbital uses a sliced-and-diced sample of the vocals from the Opus III song and I used to go to sleep to it many moons ago.  It was nice to hear it again.

I have a bunch of spam comments that I keep meaning to rip into, but I haven’t had time yet.  Tomorrow will be spam day.
