The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes
Apr 29th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes.

Even after all these years, this song still gets a lot of air time with me.  It has one of the nicest guitar melodies I’ve ever heard, and the lyrics seem to go perfectly with it.

Another favorite from the 90’s!

An old New Order favorite
Apr 27th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – New Order – Procession.

An oldie, but a definite favorite New Order song for me (although this appears to be a home-made video, which irks me).  I think my theme for songs this week will be in this vein of old favorites.

I obtained the Fever CD I needed yesterday and should be able to upload the studio songs this week.

Corrected – The Cure – A Strange Day

YouTube – The Cure – A Strange Day.

In honor of Robert Smith’s 50th birthday last week. (I updated this video on 4/27 since the first one didn’t allow embedding). I couldn’t watch The Cure in Orange enough when I bought it in high school.

I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my girls
Apr 25th, 2009 by lo-budge

YouTube – Animal Collective – My Girls.

I had to add this song tonight because I have been listening to it constantly. To me, it’s a cross between 808 State circa “Gorgeous” and emotive vocals and lyrics. The reference to adobe hits close to home, and the general message of the song is something I can really get behind.
As much as I like the video for this song, and as much as I hate the homemade videos people make for songs they like, I think that some actual adobe homes and New Mexico footage in general would serve this song very well. I’ve never been tempted to make my own video for a song (at least in the last decade, and I won’t for this one), but the juxtaposition between electronic music and muddy earthy walls seems to work pretty well, at least in my imagination.

Have a good weekend!

Today’s heavy-rotation song.

YouTube – Santogold – Shove It.

I’m still working on the Fever page as I have misplaced a CD I am trying to locate.  A few more photos may be uploaded tonight as well.

These types of songs that are thrown up on YouTube seem to disappear quickly, but I’m going to link to them for a while to have a running play list on this blog of stuff I have been listening to lately.

I am really liking this new WordPress plugin, “Press This”, which makes posting links and videos from other websites very simple.

A song I can’t hear enough of these days.

Fever and the Fallin’ Rain disintegration and lo-budge page added
Apr 16th, 2009 by lo-budge

Fever played our last show together as a 5-piece two nights ago at the Nightlight in Chapel Hill.  There was a nice write-up about us in the Independent to promote the show (linked here, including the disparaging comments), but sadly it was not a well-attended show at all, even though the wonderful music of solo artists Dylan Gilbert and Pure Horsehair were being showcased that evening as well.  Jessica and Steve have (very wisely) decided to move to Wilmington in the coming weeks and proceed as a two-piece.  I hope to continue recording with them and expect to see great things from them in the future.

I will put up a page soon with the six or seven songs I managed to record with them in the few productive months we spent together (this band’s lifetime lasted somewhere between Frizz and Saturday Banned, but with much more musical output).

The lo-budge page was added a few days ago, and I still have a couple of songs I recorded here in Durham to put up on it.  I may have a few more Tram Tower songs to put up soon that Kevin Fullerton may send me, and of course I still have lots of photos and fliers to scan in and post at some point in the future.

Finally, word on the street is that Los Mini Cañas may start recording soon, something that is long overdue and that I will be involved in.
